COVID-19 fight: 8 Burkinabe nationals busted in Sisaala East repatriated

About 8 Burkinabe nationals who were arrested at 19:30 hours GMT on April 15, 2020, were subsequently repatriated the next morning following a tip-off my Pieng community in the Sisaala East municipality.

The Burkinabe nationals comprising: 5 men, 2 women, and a kid were reported to be traveling back to Funsi where they reported to have stayed for a long time until they left for Samboi in Burkina Faso where they stayed for about a week.

According to them, they were going back to Funsi to follow up on their reported missing cattle and have passed through their “routine” unapproved route around Katine.

The Operation Conquest Fist commander of Tumu Immigration Service, ASI Geremeh Awuzelego said they arrested the 8 Burkinabe nationals based on a tip-off given by the people of Pieng community. He said the community phoned and reported the issue to the MCE, Hon. Karim Nayua also forwarded the information to them and they moved to the community and caused the arrest.

ASI Jeremy Awinzeligo while expressing his gratitude to the people of Pieng community said they brought them from Pieng to the police station yesternight, April 15, 2020, and have processed them for repatriation this morning, April 16, 2020.

He has also called on other communities to emulate the people of Pieng and has asked for collaboration in terms of volunteering information.

In an interview with the Municipal Health Director, Mr. Alex Bapula said they took their temperatures with the gun thermometers but none has exceeded the 38 degrees limit, but added that because they cannot guarantee their health status they have asked them to go back to Burkina Faso.

Meanwhile, Mr. Alex Bapula has called on border communities to help in arresting any foreigner who comes into their communities through unapproved routes.
