Being the biggest and most populated area council with more lucrative avenues to raise more revenue for the Sissala West District Assembly, the Gwollu area council has been performing poorly as compared to the 7 other area councils in terms of annual revenue mobilization.
The District Chief Executive of Sissala West, Hon. Zakaria Mohammed Bakor has therefore tasked the newly inaugurated Executives of the Gwollu area council to change that narrative and improve upon its revenue mobilization.
Hon. Zakaria Mohammed Bakor has said the Gwollu area council despite being the biggest and most populated it has always been placed in the last positions on the 8 area councils’ revenue mobilization annual performance league table.
According to the DCE, the area council could divide some the other area councils in the district severally yet they have been performing much better than the Gwollu area council. “the area council doing very well for its people is the Zini area council, then followed by the Pulima area council, but for we Gwollu area council we have always been last despite our biggest status in the whole district”. He continued and bemoaned about a chunk of revenue either collected or uncollected from some of the lucrative avenues such as Gwollu and Jeffisis markets which are eluding the Assembly to illegal hands.
Hon. Zakaria Mohammed Bakor was speaking during the inauguration of the new Gwollu area council on February 25, 2020, at the district assembly hall.
Meanwhile, the DCE also tasked the Assembly and Unit Committee Members of the Gwollu area council to adopt communalism to undertake developmental initiatives in their various areas particularly in the fight against sanitation crisis.
He also urged peace and unity among Assembly and Unit Committee Members as well as other local leaders to prevail.
In an interview with the newly elected Chairman of the Executives of the Gwollu area council who also doubles as the Assembly Member for Wuljua Electoral area, Hon. Lukman Amidu Gbamie while expressing his disappointment about the development has promised to adopt effective monitoring and supervision of revenue collectors to check the evasion of revenues generated. He further revealed plans to register all tricycles coupling with designed sticker plates for the tricycles in the area council for easy identifications and tracking to aid in the revenue collection.
Also, the Assembly Member for the Kusali Electoral area doubles as the Presiding Member for Sissala West District Assembly, Hon. Tahiru Ali expressed unhappiness regarding the development but was hopeful that the trend would change as the DCE pointed out the causes and corresponding measures the assembly intends to put in place to correct the revenue mobilization crisis in the area council.
