Over eighty(80) members of the People National Convention(PNC) drawn from some polling stations and the Constituency level – some holding executive positions, have defected to the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP).
The defectors made this known at a short press briefing held yesterday, 2nd December,2020.
The leader of the group Alhaji Moro Ahmed popularly called Baba Pele asserts that, “the defection of himself and the other members numbering over 150 PNC to the NPP was due to neglect and sideline by the current leadership of the party whiles claiming others have been sacked from the party”.
Alhaji Baba mentioned that “though we are viable wives that can produce good result for the growth of the party but we have since been sidelined and neglected, we, therefore, decided to form a group known as Widows of PNC, now we have found a new husband in the name of NPP, we are entrusting our thumbs to their parliamentary candidate in the name of Amidu Chinnia Issahaku and the presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo”.
He further noted that, the goodwill and faith kept by the Akuffo Addo led government in keeping to it promises and handling of the economy including the introduction of pro-poor policies occasion for the defection.
Meanwhile, the Campaign Manager for Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, Mr. Benin Suleman officially welcoming the group to the elephant party pledged to treat the new members very well but also pleaded on them to bring many more of the PNC members on board.
He added that “we know it is not easy to take this decision so we want to promise them that, we will never let you down, with the work we have done so far in the constituency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo he confidently declared will win the election in Sissala East and entire Ghana for that matter and Amidu Chinnia Issahaku by 7th December, he will be pronounced victorious in this election”.
He also advanced that “our target is to get more than twenty-one thousand of the votes out of the forty-two thousand votes in the constituency”.
The constituency executive of the party in the Sissala East when contacted by Radford FM News the constituency Chairman, Mr. Alendu Moro said: “I would consult the rank and file of the party before commenting on the issue”.
The PNC has since 1992 annexed the Sissala East seat twice and currently being led by Mr Kingsley Kanton who came second in the 2016 elections.
